Around 150 jobs saved at collapsed Tolent as North East firm steps in

A North East construction company has swooped to save around half of the jobs lost following the collapse of beleagured building contractor Tolent.

Team Valley based Tolent appointed James Lumb and Howard Smith of Interpath Advisory last week, immediately resulting in 313 redundancies, after heavy losses on its biggest contract to date, the £85.5m Milburngate scheme in Durham, led to its failure.

The Interpath team had been working to find buyers for its assets and properties, as well as its subsidiary businesses at Wilton and Shotton Colliery. Now Sunderland-based Brims Construction has revealed how it has worked with Tolent’s former chairman and founder, who left the business in 2019, to save jobs and bring some of the collapsed firm’s sites back into action, just over a week after administrators were called in.
