In Hansi town of Haryana’s Hisar district, around 100 Muslim migrants have left their rented accommodation amid threats and calls for their economic boycott by right-wing groups. This came days after a video – which showed protesters warning Muslims to leave Hansi within two days – emerged on social media, in the wake of violence during a VHP procession in Nuh.
Police in Hansi have booked Krishna Gurjar of Bajrang Dal, three others, and 12 unidentified persons under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 149 (common object of unlawful assembly), 153 (wantonly giving provocation, with intent to cause riot), 505(2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
However, the FIR was filed only after protests by farmer outfits, who have accused the suspects in Hansi of being linked to local BJP leaders. Farm outfits also called for a public meeting to reinforce social harmony.
Police are yet to arrest any of the suspects. City police station SHO Udaybhan Gounder said, “We are trying but are unable to apprehend the accused.”
