Year Eight pupils at an Arnold school have been given a unique insight into the world of journalism, thanks to a partnership between Nottingham Trent University and Nottinghamshire Live.
Twelve students at Arnold Hill Spencer Academy have been attending an after-school club run by journalism lecturer Jonny Greatrex with the assistance of Nottinghamshire Live editor Natalie Fahy. Students were also given a tour of the media facilities and newsroom at NTU's Centre for Broadcasting and Journalism, in Nottingham city centre.
The pupils have been shown how to identify a story and interview people, as well as being given guidance on how to work their information into the correct structure for a written news story. Nottinghamshire Live photographer Joe Raynor also showed the children how to take photos and what kind of equipment is involved.

Once the stories are written, they will be published in the school's first ever newsletter, written entirely by students.
Jordan Phillips, Head of Year Eight at the school, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for the students to explore as very few schools would have this opportunity at key stage three.
"The students have been very dedicated to the project and have been interviewing students and staff around the academy. There definitely is a buzz to creating the first student-led newsletter."
Nottingham Trent University journalism lecturer Jonny Greatrex added: "The group has been fantastic to work with.
"They are full of enthusiasm in every session.
"I am looking forward to helping them produce their first student-led school publication."
