A Nottinghamshire pub landlord has explained why barriers are sometimes placed outside to stop people from using the car park. The Longbow pub, in Calverton Road, Arnold, announced last month that barriers would be put in place on certain days, meaning there would be no access for vehicles.
Landlord Sean Jordan said the barriers were for safety reasons and would only be in place while events are taking place. "People have to understand we are a business," said the 41-year-old, who took over at the pub last October.
He said people would be given 24 hours' notice of the closure. "It's for traffic calming and safety, we are a family pub that hold children's parties and we have a responsibility to keep them safe. We also have wedding and funeral events.

"It's a bit embarrassing when the bride arrives for photos and there's cars all over the place." Mr Jordan, of Calverton, introduced the measures as part of plans to improve the pub, which include extra children's entertainment.
"We have extended the play area so, all going well, we can have bouncy castle parties and barbecues," he said. "We'll have more space for our events so we can offer the full package.
"We're trying to work on getting a family feel around the place." Mr Jordan also said he was looking into restoring the car wash on the premises, a service he decided to close when he took over.
