Arne Engels would 'love' to hear his Robbie Williams-inspired song at Celtic Park

Celtic new boy Arne Engels arrived at Parkhead in the 11th hour on transfer deadline day, breaking the club's signing record in the process.

He featured briefly less than two days later – when Brendan Rodgers and his players swept Rangers aside 3-0 to climb five points clear of their third-place rivals in the Scottish Premiership – and now plans to hit the ground running.

When he does, he quite fancies hearing the Paradise faithful belting out the tailored version of Robbie Williams' Angels that Celtic fans have since shared far and wide on social media, replacing the song's titular title with the 21-year-old's bisyllabic surname.

“I saw some comments about that under my picture [on social media], so that would be really nice, I’d love that!" Engels said at a Celtic Park press conference on Monday. "It would be amazing.”

As reported by The Herald, when asked if he expects to be initiated into the squad by  being forced to showcase his own vocal abilities, Engels seemed decidedly less keen.

He added: "I hope not! I don’t know, but if it comes then I’ll do it, and it will be enjoyable for the guys to laugh a bit with me. It’s a good squad, but we haven’t had time for that yet.

"[Monday] was only my second day in training today, so I haven’t had a lot of time to speak to anyone for a really long time or anything, it’s just been quick chats with everybody.

"It’s an amazing squad actually, everybody is young and also speaking English it is much easier for me to come in and enjoy my time here."

Following the international break, Celtic return to league action this weekend against Hearts at Celtic Park, before then hosting Slovan Bratislava in the UEFA Champions League next Wednesday, September 18.
