Armed police swoop on Scots street as ongoing incident sees road locked down

Armed cops have locked down an Irvine street due to an ongoing incident.

A huge emergency services presence has been spotted on the North Ayrshire town's Middleton Road, which is in the Girdle Toll area.

Ayrshire Live understands that multiple armed response units, a dog unit and an ambulance incident response unit are all currently at the scene.

An eyewitness says the area remains sealed off with specialist officers and paramedics swarming around the estate.

They told Ayrshire Live: "From the looks of things, it seems like a major response.

"There are police everywhere they have closed Middleton Road at the junction to Burns Crescent.

"There’s multiple armed response units, dog unit, several ambulances, ambulance incident response units and around 15 police vehicles."

Ayrshire Live has contacted Police Scotland for comment.
