UPDATE: A man has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and remains in police custody.
Armed police have made an arrest following a domestic incident in the Rhondda Valley.
A heavy police presence closed Duffryn Street in Ferndale at around 5pm on Tuesday. One witness said a police helicopter could be seen overhead.
The South Wales Police control room told WalesOnline at 8.30pm: "The matter has been resolved. Armed police officers were deployed for public reassurance. One person was arrested for a domestic-related matter and is in custody."

The force spokesman said he could not yet confirm the alleged offence which led to the arrest, or give any details about the person arrested.
Local resident Jill Davies said just after 8pm: "The main road was blocked off for some considerable time with a very strong police presence, and the helicopter at one time seemed to be hovering over the downward route out of Ferndale. All quiet now, but it lasted about two hours."
A spokesperson for the force told WalesOnline on Wednesday: "Police arrested a man at approximately 6.45pm on Tuesday, 26 January at an address in Duffryn Street, Ferndale. He was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and remains in police custody. Armed officers were deployed to make the arrest as a precautionary measure. An investigation into an incident which occurred earlier that day is ongoing."
