Armed police called and address searched over reports woman threatened in her home in Strelley

Armed police were deployed while officers searched an address over reports a woman was threatened by a man in her home in Strelley. The address in Strelley Road was searched after the incident was reported at about 4.15pm on Thursday (May 4).

Police are working to trace the man and launched a public appeal for information. Chief Inspector Amy Styles-Jones said: “Police have this evening searched an address in Strelley Road, Broxtowe, as part of an ongoing investigation.

“Officers were first called at around 4.15pm today (May 4) after a woman reported being threatened by a man at her home, which is also in Broxtowe. We still need to speak to this man so I would urge anyone with any information which could help with our inquiries to get in touch."

Pictures sent in by readers appeared to show armed officers in the area near the roundabout connecting Broxtowe Lane, Beechdale Avenue and Aspley Lane, the junction linking Aspley to the east.

The scene appears to have cleared. But some shop staff said the incident caused some disruption, saying customers were told to avoid entering shops in the vicinity while police dealt with the situation.

A staff member at Go Local Extra, in Strelley Road, said: “They [the police[ were here [in the area] for about one-and- a-half hours. I tried to ask why they were here but they did not tell me. The armed police were here and they said no one could come into the shops for a bit. I have no idea what was going on."

Other local residents were surprised to hear armed police had been deployed. Grant Rhodes, 57, from Aspley, said: “Well I’ve never heard of anything like that happening before.

"I didn’t see it at the time; if I did see the armed police I think I would have been shocked. You hear a lot of police here because of the station, with cars going to the motorway, but it’s surprising to think they [the police] needed guns here.”

Anyone with information that could help the police investigation is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 482 of May 4.
