'Armed police' but no arrests in Keynsham damage spree investigation

No arrests have yet been made in an investigation into a series of incidents of criminal damage in Keynsham early on Saturday morning - despite armed officers being involved in one of several attempted arrests by police.

Avon and Somerset police said they are continuing to search the town near Bristol following reports of damage to cars and homes on Saturday morning, June 25, which prompted a major police investigation.

But despite the efforts of police to find those responsible, as of 7pm on Sunday evening, nobody has yet been detained in connection with what happened.

Police were first called to reports of damage to windows of cars in Caernavon Road, just before 8am, and further calls began coming in that car windows and house windows had been smashed in nearby streets, including Coronation Avenue, St George's Road and Queens Road.

Police said they soon established that the criminal damage early on Saturday morning may well be connected with a dispute in Coronation Avenue at around 7.30am that morning in which a woman reportedly climbed onto the bonnet of a car.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police said officers have been collating all the reports over the weekend, and further inquiries are continuing, but at least two cars were damaged and windows smashed at 'at least one home'. Residents of Keynsham reported seeing an increase of police activity throughout Saturday, with armed police involved in a raid on one house.

But so far, despite multiple incidents of what the police are describing as 'arrest attempts', no arrests have yet been made.

Bristol Live understands that armed police were involved in one of the attempted arrests at a property in Keynsham because there were reports that a weapon could have been used. Officers are still gathering statements from people who have had property damaged, and are yet to complete a full picture of all the cases of criminal damage that have occurred.

"Officers believe the incidents may be linked to a dispute which took place in Coronation Avenue at about 7.30am in which a woman reportedly climbed on the bonnet of a car," a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police said on Saturday. "Neighbourhood officers are targeting their patrols in the area and arrest attempts are underway for a number of individuals police have identified through their ongoing enquiries.

"If you witnessed or have dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or phone footage of any of the incidents, please call 101 and give the reference 5222150532. Alternatively, ring the independent charity Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously on 0800 555 111," she added.
