'Armed' Edinburgh police arrest 50-year-old man in quiet residential street

Edinburgh Police raced to the scene of a disturbance this afternoon and arrested a 50-year-old man.

Edinburgh Live had received reports of a large police presence in the Fort Kinnaird area, especially around Blackchapel Road.

One person sent in images of what appears to be armed Police Scotland officers at the scene.

Others reported seeing a large number of police cars.

Edinburgh police confirmed that they had attended a "disturbance" at Bonnybridge Drive and arrested the man.

It is not known if they are looking for anyone else in connection with the incident this afternoon at this stage.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a disturbance at a property on Bonnybridge Drive in Edinburgh around 3.10pm on Friday, 11 March.

“A 50-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”

It is believed that the police presence had cleared at the scene by early evening.
