Armed cops storm Scots street amid reports of person with knife as man charged

Armed police locked down a street in Dundee, with a man charged after officers were called to reports of a person in possession of a knife.

Specialist officers rushed to Duncraig Road in the Charleston area of the city shortly after 5am on Sunday January 30.

Police vehicles and a cordon blockaded the road before they were later joined by a Scottish Ambulance Service incident response unit as a precautionary measure.

Video shared on social media showed armed officers marching down the street carrying rifles and standing guard outside a block of flats.

Duncraig Road remained closed for several hours while officers responded to the incident.

Police Scotland has since confirmed a man has been arrested and charged following the large-scale response.

Officers have since stressed that the wider public was not at risk during the stand-off.

A force spokesperson said: “Around 5.20am on Sunday, 30 January, police received a report of a man in possession of a knife within a property in the Duncraig Road area of Dundee.

"Officers attended and a 38-year-old man was arrested and charged.

"There was no threat to the wider public, but the road was closed between Dunholm Road and South Road, as officers dealt with the incident.

"The man will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal."
