Arlene Phillips predicts 'outstanding' tribute to Len Goodman on Strictly return

Strictly legend Arlene Phillips is backing calls for a tribute to Len Goodman on the dance show.

Arlene, 80, was on the original judging panel with Len between 2004 and 2009.

He died in April aged 78 after battling bone cancer and Arlene wants BBC bosses to remember his life in this year’s series.

She said: “I’m sure they will celebrate his life. Len has played a big part in the lives of so many of the pro dancers and choreographers.

“I am sure it will be something quite outstanding to represent the love and appreciation of Len being part of that show.”

Arlene, who is choreographing Grease in the West End, said he was a “big personality”, not least when they shot the pilot for the BBC show.

She recalled: “He turned to me in his Len way and said: ‘I’ve had enough of this, I’m going home.’”

Brendan Cole has said he would return for a group dance featuring past and present professionals to honour Len – head judge from 2004 to 2016.
