Stephen Richer, a prominent Arizona Republican election official, has conceded his primary race for the Maricopa County recorder to Arizona state Rep. Justin Heap. Richer, known for pushing back against conspiracy theories surrounding the 2020 election, graciously accepted the outcome of the election.
In a statement, Richer acknowledged the nature of elections, stating, 'Elections have winners and, sadly, losers. And in this one, it looks like I’m going to end up on the losing side of the column. But that’s the name of the game. Accept it. Move on.'
He extended his congratulations to Heap, the primary winner, who has not publicly stated his position on the legitimacy of the 2020 or 2022 elections.
Despite the election results, Richer expressed his commitment to fulfilling his duties in recording, voter registration, and mail voting for the remainder of his term. He assured a smooth transition for his successor, whether it be Heap or the Democratic candidate Tim Stringham, by providing necessary support for a seamless handover of responsibilities.
Richer's dedication to ensuring the continued efficiency and legality of election processes highlights his professionalism and commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral system.
