Argos selling £16.99 'Dyson Supersonic' hairdryer toy parents say provides 'hours of fun'

Children love to emulate their parents and a new toy reduced in Argos' pre-Black Friday sale has seen shoppers doing double takes, as an iconic Dyson hairdryer has seemingly been reduced to £16.99 - but all is not as it seems.

The Dyson Supersonic Styling Set looks identical to the hair care products at the top of many grown ups' Christmas lists this year, but with one key difference. Whereas the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer will set you back around £329.99, the children's version is now almost a twentieth of that price, reduced by Argos to £16.99 from its usual £25 RRP.

The set includes the iconic supersonic hairdryer, with all the attachments you'd get in a full sized version, including nozzle, diffuser, barrel brush and detangling comb. Understandably for a child's toy, the fully working version uses batteries, rather than a plug.

The toy is already proving a hit with children. One parent who rated it five stars said: "Quality realistic play set with straighteners that have lights and sounds a brush, comb and stand. My 5 year old loves it and has spent hours playing hairdressers. The are just like the real Dyson products perfect for children who want to be just like mummy!"

Another said: "My daughter was so excited to receive this. It is realistic. The details are great from the bristles in the brush to the real air blown out the hair dryer! I'm sure we are going to have many hours of fun playing with this"

Toy manufacturers Casdon worked closely with engineers at Dyson to make the toy version, which blows air and has lights and sounds identical to the real thing. There's also a slightly more expensive set with Corrale hair straighters included too - all made to look exactly like the full-sized working versions.

Dyson's Sam Czerpak said they had undertaken the collaboration to help inspire creativity among children, adding: "In bringing our original design to life in toy format we hope to provide children with a playful introduction to the world of Dyson technology.”

Shoppers picking up the mini-me versions have commented on how similar they are to the real things.

One happy reviewer said: "This is a very realistic product. My girls love playing hairdressers with this as it really is a smaller version of the actual Dyson hairdryer. The brush is nice and soft. The hairdryer does blow a small amount of air which they thought was great."

It's not just about hair care though. Shoppers can also pick up play Dyson cordless stick hoovers that look identical to the larger versions but, at £20, with a price tag more than £500 less than even the best Dyson Black Friday deal so far.

Again, they look identical to the real thing, with shoppers commenting that their children love to help with housework using the toys, which even comes with an added benefit.

A reviewer explained: "My granddaughter loves it. She always wanted to use my Dyson to help me with the housework and this one is just like it in toy version. It even has a small amount of suction and collects dirt."

As well as Argos, retailers including John Lewis and Amazon are selling the toys which are one of several collaborations Casdon has launched this year with high-end brands found in homes across the country.

Another popular brand being given a mini-makeover is designer kitchenware giant Joseph Joseph, whose colourful bowls, bakeware and washing up sets can now be bought in child sizes from just £13 making them the ideal addition to play kitchens.
