Argos is set to close another store as Sainsbury's goes ahead with cutting the number of its standalone Argos sites.
The Argos store in St Stephens, Hull will be closing in the next few months.
While the news will come as a disappointment to many local residents, a new Argos branch is set to open in the Sainsbury's supermarket in Hessle.
The opening date is yet to be confirmed.
The closure of the Argos site is part of a major restructuring plan from Argos owner Sainsbury's which will see a "number" of standalone sites close and reopen in nearby Sainsbury's stores.
Staff at the site will be offered a role at other Argos stores or within Sainsbury's.
An Argos spokesperson told HullLive: "To make shopping convenient for customers and to enable us to invest where it matters most, we are relocating many of our standalone Argos stores to Sainsbury’s – this includes our Hull St Stephen's Argos.
"We understand this will be an unsettling time for those affected and we are supporting them in any we can, including offering colleagues the opportunity to redeploy to other roles within Sainsbury’s and Argos.
"Later this year, a brand-new Argos will open inside Sainsbury’s Hull. Our customers will be able to enjoy greater convenience and choice as it will enable them to purchase technology, home and toy products from Argos while picking up their groceries."
Other sites which are set to close this year will be Cardiff Bay’s Argos store which is set to shut its doors in July, and the Argos site in Newport which will close later in the summer.
No official dates for closures have been announced at the time of writing.
The news of the upcoming closures comes after Argos announced it was to shut all of its stores in the Republic of Ireland.
The closures, which were announced in January this year, will see 34 sites shut for good which affected nearly 600 jobs.
All of the Republic of Ireland stores will be closed by June 24 Sainsbury's says.
The supermarket chain said that the Northern Ireland, Wales, England and Scottish stores were not affected by the announcement.
Argos said it arrived at the decision to leave Ireland following a long period of "careful consideration" and a "thorough review" of its business and operations in the country.
It found that the investment required to keep developing the Irish side of its business was “not viable”.
Argos said it has over 1,000 "points of presence" across the UK which included 253 standalone stores and 422 Argos stores inside Sainsbury’s stores.
As well as this, there are Argos Click and Collect points inside over 400 other Sainsbury’s stores.
