Argos has announced it will be closing a town's store next week, with a number of staff being let go.
The Birkenhead store, based at Pyramids Shopping Centre on Princes Pavement, has announced it will be closing its store next week. The announcement comes after Argos made the decision to close two Argos depots on February 28.
A spokesperson from Argos said: "In the last few months we have been consulting with our colleagues at Birkenhead Argos following the difficult decision to close the store. We understand this will be an unsettling time for those affected and we are supporting them in every way we can.

"This has included exploring opportunities to redeploy within Argos and Sainsbury’s. We regularly review our property estate and the decision to close a store is never taken lightly and is based on a range of factors."
It's unclear exactly how many people work at the branch, but the ECHO understands more than 50% of the employees are being redeployed to other roles across Argos and Sainsbury’s. Argos is looking to reduce the number of standalone stores and open more collection points and Argos stores within Sainsbury’s.
