Are the London Overground strikes cancelled? RMT union issues update

A planned strike on the London overground next week has been cancelled, the RMT union has announced

Members of the RMT union working for Arriva Rail London were due to take strike action on Monday, February 19 and Tuesday, February 20 in a dispute over pay.

But the union announced progress has been made over the staff’s pay and the strike action will be suspended.

An e-referendum on the improved offer will begin next week.

In a statement, RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: "London Overground members working for Arriva Rail London have made progress through their determination to take strike action.

"The dispute is not over but we have made sufficient progress to suspend the action next week in order for our members to assess the new offer fully in a referendum."

It comes after Aslef, the train drivers’ union, announced further action at two companies – LNER and Northern, as the yet-to-be-resolved disputes over pay and conditions continue.

Aslef states the strikes are due to “persistent failure to comply with existing agreements”.

An LNER spokesperson said: “Our priority focus remains on minimising disruption to customers during Aslef strikes, which sadly will continue to cause disruption and delays.

“We encourage Aslef to continue to work with us to find a way to end this long-running dispute which only damages the rail industry.”

Here’s a look at when the strikes will take place and which services it will impact.

What other train strikes are planned?

A strike is still planned on the London Overground on Monday, March 4 and Tuesday, March 5.

TFL said, if the strikes go as planned, some stations will be closed or running on reduced services. Some services will not be running in the early morning or in the evening. Travelers using the National Rail services from stations by the London Overground have been advised to check before they set out.

No services will be running between Gospel Oak and Barking Riverside. There will also be no services from Stratford to Richmond and Clapham Junction.

Reduced services will also be impacting Highbury & Islington to Clapham Junction, West Croydon, Crystal Palace and New Cross.

Which stations will be closed?

TFL said London Overground will not be stopping at these services:

·     Haggerston

·      Hoxton

·      Rotherhithe

·      Shadwell

·      Shoreditch High Street

·      Wapping
