Are shops open on Monday including stores such as Primark, Argos, B&M, Home Bargains and B&Q?

Monday has been declared a national bank holiday to mark Queen Elizabeth II's funeral. The monarch will be laid to rest on September 19 at Westminster Abbey in London.

It's thought to be the largest international event put on in the UK for decades, with 2,000 people in attendance and billions worldwide expected to tune in for the proceedings. World leaders and foreign royals will be among those attending the service in the capital.

Huge crowds are expected outside Westminster Abbey during the service. It will also be broadcast live on huge screens in locations across the country, as well as on the BBC, ITV and Sky.

Some major supermarkets and restaurants have confirmed that they'll be closing on Monday, while others will be open for limited hours. The government said businesses can opt to shut on the day of the state funeral in respect of the late monarch.

The official guidance states: “Some businesses may wish to consider closing or postponing events, especially on the day of the state funeral, however, this is at the discretion of individual businesses.”

Here is what stories such as Primark, Argos, B&M, Home Bargains and B&Q have planned for Monday.

Primark

Primark will close all 191 stores on the bank holiday.

A spokesperson said: "Our stores, depots and Head Office in the UK will be closed on Monday 19th September to give our colleagues the opportunity to pay their respects and watch the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"We will reopen as normal on Tuesday."

Argos

Argos will be closing its doors on Monday.

A spokesman said: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In honour of Her Majesty and so our colleagues can pay their respects, all Sainsbury’s supermarkets and Argos stores will be closed on Monday, 19th September."

Argos' fast-track delivery will also be delayed on the day of the Queen's funeral. Meanwhile, Sainsbury's announced that its convenience stores and petrol filling stations will be open from 5pm to 10pm.

B&M

B&M will also shut with a statement on their website saying: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty, The Queen.

"We would like to express our deepest condolences to the Royal Family, as well as our gratitude to Her Majesty, The Queen for her lifetime of unwavering service.

"As a mark of respect, all B&M stores across the UK will be closed on Monday 19th September to commemorate the passing of our late monarch."

Home Bargains

Home Bargains is among the shops closing on bank holiday Monday (Hadyn Iball / North Wales Live)

Home Bargains will close on Monday.

In a tweet the chain said: "As the country comes together to pay tribute and remember Queen Elizabeth II, all Home Bargains stores will close on Monday 19 September to allow our customers and colleagues to pay their respects to Her Majesty The Queen."

B&Q

B&Q confirmed it will close all its UK stores "as a mark of respect" on the day of the Queen's funeral.

This will give staff "the opportunity to pay their respects" - click and collect and home delivery will also be temporarily suspended.

John Lewis

Te John Lewis Partnership which runs both stores confirmed they will be closed on Monday.

Andrew Murphy, chief operating officer of The John Lewis Partnership, said: “We are deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

“We will be closing our stores on the day of her funeral as a mark of respect, and because we believe this is the right thing to do for our partners and customers.”

It added there may be “a very limited number of Waitrose stores” near to the route of the funeral procession which remain open to serve members of the public nearby.

It stressed these shops would close during the funeral itself.

M&S

M&S said it will close stores and also halt deliveries to customers as it allows employees to pay their respects.

Stuart Machin, chief executive at M&S, said: “All of us at M&S – and indeed across the country and beyond – feel a real and deep sense of loss and sadness at the passing of Her Majesty, as well as huge respect for the grace with which His Majesty King Charles III and the wider royal family have led the nation in our mourning.

“It is right that we make changes to our operational arrangements on the day of the funeral to ensure our colleagues across our stores and distribution network can participate, whilst supporting customers as they show their respects too.”

Wickes

Wickes confirmed stores will be closed on Monday - with click and collect and home deliveries also suspended.

Screwfix

Screwfix will close all its stores, contact centre and suspend home and site deliveries on Monday.

Homebase

Homebase said: "We join the country in mourning the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II and will be closing our stores on the day of her funeral."

Ikea

An Ikea UK spokesperson said: "Out of respect, and to enable our co-workers to participate in the funeral, Ikea UK will pause its business operations, including closing all of our UK stores on Monday 19 September."

Poundland

A spokesperson said: "Our stores, depots and Head Office in the UK will be closed on Monday 19th September to give our colleagues the opportunity to pay their respects and watch the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"We will reopen as normal on Tuesday."

WH Smith

All WH Smith branches will be closed on the day of the Queen's funeral.

Dunelm

A spokesperson for the chain said: "On Monday 19th September and as a mark of our respect, we will be closing all Dunelm stores and pausing delivery, Click & Collect and customer services on the day of the Funeral.

"We will reopen on Tuesday 20th September."

Dreams

Dreams chief executive Jonathan Hirst said: “Our heartfelt sympathy and thoughts are with the royal family at this sad time. We will be closing all areas of our business, including our stores, and pausing all deliveries on Monday September 19 so that our colleagues can come together with the rest of the country to pay their respects to Her Majesty the Queen.”

Blue Diamond Garden Centres

All stores will be closed for the day of the Queen's funeral, with business reopening on Tuesday.

Harrods

A spokesman for Harrods told Drapers: "Harrods stands with the entire nation in grief on the passing of Her Majesty the Queen.

"Her Majesty stood as a symbol of Britain, bringing comfort, leadership and steadfastness to millions over her 70 year reign. On behalf of Harrods and our employees, we send our deepest condolences to the Royal Family and are united in remembrance of Her Majesty and her life dedicated to public service.

"We will continue to commemorate the life of Her Majesty the Queen and pay our respects by closing the store on the day of the State Funeral."

Costa Coffee

More than 2,000 locations will close on the bank holiday, except those located inside a hospital or those with Express machines where stores haven't already shut.

Primark

Primark will close all 191 stores on the bank holiday. A spokesperson said: "Our stores, depots and Head Office in the UK will be closed on Monday 19th September to give our colleagues the opportunity to pay their respects and watch the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. "We will reopen as normal on Tuesday."

Zara

The fashion retailer confirmed its 60 locations will close for the whole of the bank holiday with services resuming on Tuesday.

TK Maxx

TK Maxx said all stores across the UK will be closed on Monday 19.

Next

Next stories its stored will be closed for the bank holiday.

A spokesperson from Next said: “In honour of Her Majesty and so our colleagues can pay their respects, all stores will be closed on Monday, 19 September.”

H&M

As a mark of respect, H&M says it will be closing all stores in the UK on Monday.

Matalan

All UK stores will be closed on Monday and reopen as usual on Tuesday.

Kwik Fit

Roger Griggs, communications director at Kwik Fit, said: “Following the declaration of a bank holiday to mark the state funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Kwik Fit centres will be closed on Monday 19 September.

"While we usually remain open on most bank holidays, these are unique circumstances. We are closing to enable all our colleagues to join their family and friends in paying their final respects as Her Majesty is laid to rest.

"We understand that many customers will be doing the same and hope that this decision does not cause inconvenience. We will reopen with normal operations on Tuesday 20 September.”

Toolstation

All locations will be closed for the whole bank holiday with services resuming on Tuesday.

Pets at Home

Pets at Home will close its stores for the whole of the bank holiday with regular operating hours on the following Tuesday.

Smyths Toys

Smyths Toys confirmed all stores will be closed.

Wilkos

The chain says stores will be closed all day so staff can commemorate the life of the Queen with their families.

Greggs

Greggs shops will close all day on Monday 19 September. A small number of shops operated by franchise partners may remain open

McDonald's

McDonald's will be closed from midnight until 5pm.

Trafford Centre

The Trafford Centre will be closed until 4pm on Monday. In a statement on the Trafford Centre's website, bosses said: "On Monday 19th September, the Trafford Centre will close in acknowledgment of Queen Elizabeth II's State Funeral and to allow staff the time and space to mark the occasion and pay their respects.

"The centre will re-open at 4pm, with a minimal number of brands." Bosses, however, said many of the centre's individual stores will be closing for the entire day.

The statement added: "We would kindly advise you to check individual retailer websites and social channels for their opening hours, as majority of the centre's retailers are closing for the full day. Normal Trafford Centre opening hours will resume on Tuesday 20th September."

Cheshire Oaks

Designer Outlet Cheshire Oaks will be closed on the bank holiday.

The centre will resume normal trading hours on Tuesday, September 20.
