A state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II will take place on Monday, September 19, at Westminster Abbey. The day has been declared a bank holiday in the UK, which means many shops will be closing for the day.
The service will be televised and shown at public screenings to allow the whole nation to watch, while those making the trip to London will be able to observe proceedings outside the abbey from a number of spectator locations.
The funeral is set to start at 11am and will be followed by a committal service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, at 4pm.

Among the shops closing to customers are a number of DIY stores including IKEA, B&Q and Wickes. While it is not an official requirement for shops to close for the bank holiday, many have decided to shut as a mark of respect and to allow their staff to watch the funeral proceedings take place.
