Arboretum events look likely to return for this summer with a new name

A popular event held in the centre of the Arboretum park on Waverely Street has hinted at a return on its Facebook page this week. The event run by the DHP Family also changed its name to Arboretum Beer Festival for 2022 from Garden Bar and Bandstand.

They wrote: "The weather is amazing right now and we're excited for our return this summer, with more fun & frolics in the sun at the Arboretum Garden Bar and Bandstand!"

DHP Family are also responsible for Splendour, Beat the Streets which use different locations around the city to host vibrant music events and pop-up festivals.

Its the first update about the event that confirms it will return for 2022 although no details have been shared yet. Festival fans will be watching eagerly as the events have started during the summer in previous years with acts announced around May or June.

The previous events have been free to attend although some of the gigs have been ticketed depending on the act. Covid restrictions have also meant visitors have needed to scan codes for track and trace along with practising social distancing. This is not likely to be in place this year as all restrictions have been lifted despite Covid infections still occurring.

The event began during lockdown as a safe way for local music fans to meet during the height of the Covid crisis. It offered an impressive line up of bands, DJs and full bar with haystacks dotted around the park for people to sit on. There was also a selection of street food available.

The success of the event meant that it returned for the following summer with an even bigger line up of musicians including Lucy Spraggan, Grace Petrie, Larry Dean and Adam Peter Smith. The karaoke special act, Bama Lama Sing Song also played in the park giving music fans a place to sing along to their favourite hits despite the brief ban on singing.

There is an event for everyone with hot yoga, comedy, music and much more on offer throughout the summer. Local street food vendors are on site to provide tasty treats such as poutine from Squeaky Beaver Poutine.

Fans of the event shared their favourite memories of the 2021 line up online. Visitors have praised the 'amazing venue' which has also hosted cider festivals and other events.

One wrote: "We had a fantastic time at the Justin Sullivan gig. Great atmosphere and lovely food and drink. Would definitely return."

Another agreed: "Attended Homegrown and “This Is The Kit” both great events, love the Arboretum."
