March saw quite a few big game releases, including the remake of classic survival horror Resident Evil 4, plus a new Soulsike game and a couple of new releases for sports fans. Now April is poised to follow up with an equally good list of games.
A PlayStation timed exclusive is finally hitting the Xbox Series X|S, while Sony is giving away a fresh FPS game to all its PS Plus subscribers on day one. Nevertheless, the biggest two releases of the month are expected to be new entries in the Star Wars and Minecraft franchises.
Sports fans are finally getting that ultra-realistic golf sim after several delays and it looks like it was worth the wait. An expansion to one of Sony’s best games from last year is also coming, while Switch owners are getting a remake of two classic turn-based strategy games.
Lots of new titles to go over this month, so let’s take a look at the best games releasing in April 2023.
Meet Your Maker
Meet Your Maker is an FPS game set in a post-apocalyptic world, where you build your own outpost, share it online and try to infiltrate other players’ outposts.
The outposts are maze-like structures where other players have put traps and guards for you to fight. You can raid levels solo or in co-op mode with a friend.
Both building and raiding outposts will grant rewards that will let you upgrade your weapons and the traps and guards in your own outposts.
Meet Your Maker is getting a wide release, and all PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to play it at no additional cost on day one, as part of the PS Plus Essential monthly games.
Meet Your Maker releases on April 4 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Road 96: Mile 0
Road 96: Mile 0 is a narrative adventure game and prequel to 2021’s Road 96. The game features musical sections where you make choices and move in rhythm with the music to traverse levels.
You alternate between playing as Zoe from Road 96 or Kaito, whom you may know from Lost in Harmony, another rhythm game from the same developer.
Road 96: Mile 0 is coming on April 4 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC.
Curse of the Sea Rats
Curse of the Sea Rats brands itself as a “ratoidvania” – that’s a Metroidvania game but with rats. You play as four prisoners of the British Empire, turned into rats by a pirate witch.
As with all Metroidvania games, you’ll be making your way to a series of non-linear interconnected levels, and each of the four playable characters will have different strengths, weaknesses and skills you can improve throughout your journey.
A key feature of Curse of the Sea Rats will be its local co-op that lets you play with up to three friends.
Curse of the Sea Rats is coming on April 6 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC.
EA Sports PGA Tour
EA Sports PGA Tour was slated for a March 24 release, but it got another delay at the last minute and is now coming in April. It’s EA’s first PGA Tour game since 2015, and the developers are promising a more detailed and realistic golf experience than ever.
The game will launch with 30 golf courses, including Augusta National, and these have been scanned and mapped by using state-of-the-art drone tech and meticulously recreated to achieve the highest level of realism.

Ghostwire: Tokyo
Ghostwire: Tokyo was first released last year as a timed PlayStation exclusive and it is finally coming to the Xbox Series X|S. The game lets you explore a beautifully recreated night-time version of Tokyo’s Shibuya district, which in the game has been deserted by supernatural forces you need to investigate and fight against.
As you cleanse the haunted city from the evil spirits that have swept away all its citizens, you rely on combat that mixes melee attacks and powerful elemental spells that look sleek and feel satisfying to use.
Check out our 2022 Ghostwire: Tokyo review, from when the game came out for the PS4 and PS5, to learn more about its gameplay, open world and story.
Ghostwire: Tokyo releases on April 12 for Xbox Series X|S and is already available for PS4, PS5 and PC.
Minecraft Legends
Minecraft Legends is an action strategy game that combines Minecraft’s building with the mechanics of tower defence games.
Legends takes place in the Minecraft universe during an invasion by the piglins from the Nether, and its story is neither fact nor fiction, but rather a legendary tale within the universe.
You team up with players online and build a fort to defend against the other team and then guide your units to the other team’s fort to destroy it.
The game is also coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one at no additional cost.
Minecraft Legends releases on April 18 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC.
Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC
Aloy’s story continues in this upcoming expansion to Horizon Forbidden West, set in 31st Los Angeles, which has become a dangerous volcanic archipelago.
We just got a glimpse of a new machine, and fans already love it. Called the Waterwing, it can both fly and dive deep underwater, hinting that the expansion will feature a lot of underwater exploration.
The Burning Shores DLC is already available to pre-order with a Blacktide outfit and bow as pre-order bonuses. The expansion is not coming to PS4 and will be a PS5 exclusive, as its creators have promised a truly next-gen experience.
Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores is coming April 19 for PS5.
Dead Island 2
Dead Island 2 is finally coming this month after spending over a decade in development hell, as the game was initially set to release back in 2015.
Like the Horizon DLC, it also takes place in a post-apocalyptic LA, but in Dead Island 2 a deadly virus is spreading across the city, turning its inhabitants into zombies.
Of course, you and just a handful of others are resistant to the pathogen and hold the key to saving the city and humanity from the zombie infection.
Dead Island 2 promises significant gameplay improvements, including more ways to slay monsters, six different characters to play as, a brand-new skill system with instant re-spec, and more. The game is coming to most platforms and will be an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC.
Dead Island 2 releases on April 21 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp
A remake of turn-based strategy games Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is coming after several delays.
The original games, which were released in the early 2000s for Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance handheld console have been rebuilt from the ground up, with improved visuals and gameplay.
Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is coming out on April 21 exclusively for the NintendoSwitch.
Afterimage
In Afterimage, you play as an amnesiac girl named Renee who embarks on a journey to uncover the truth about mystic forces attacking humankind following a cataclysmic event called The Razing.
The game is a 2D sidescrolling action-adventure gorgeously realized with a hand-drawn art style, that focuses on fast-paced combat and Metroidvania non-linear interconnected levels.
Afterimage will release on April 25 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC.
Bramble: The Mountain King
A dark adventure game inspired by Nordic fables, Bramble: The Mountain King offers the opposite of the usual sugar-coated adaptations of folklore tales we are used to seeing.
As you play as Olle who journeys the spooky world of Bramble to rescue his kidnapped sister, you will face twisted monsters in violent and unsettling epic boss fights.
Bramble: The Mountain King arrives on April 27 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the long-awaited sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which introduced us to Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan who survived Order 66 and tries to reconcile with his troubled past, and rebuild the fallen Jedi Order.
Cal Kestis returns as the protagonist in Jedi: Survivor, as the story continues five years after the events of the previous game. Seeking a safe haven far from the reach of the Empire, he and his crew are struggling to stay one step ahead of new enemies who seek to wipe out the remaining Jedi.
The new game will feature more sophisticated combat with more stances, including the new ability to use a blaster. Survivor is also expected to have a more open world design compared to the more restricted levels of Fallen Order.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor releases on April 28 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
