Applying to bid for social housing in Bristol should soon be made clearer and easier under new plans. Bristol City Council is about to make radical changes to its Home Choice website, used by thousands of people to find new accommodation.
The plans include giving clearer and more detailed information to the 18,000 households on the waiting list, as well as giving extra priority to care leavers and residents looking to downsize. Parts of Bristol could also see local people given priority for newly built homes.
Options under consultation include cutting the number of people on the waiting list by drastically restricting who can apply for social housing. Paul Sylvester, head of housing options, told the communities scrutiny commission on Monday, October 3, about the planned shake-up.
