‘Apply for Covid ex gratia within 90 days’

NASHIK: District collector Gangatharan D has appealed to the relatives of Covid victims to ensure that they file applications for ex gratia within 90 days from the death of the Covid patient.

The revenue and forests departments of Maharashtra have decided to provide ex gratia of Rs 50,000 to one relative of each Covid victim. The decision was announced in November 2021, and since December 2021, the applications are being accepted online. A senior official from district disaster management responsible for receiving the forms said, “The kin should file the application online, either from their homes or at the nearest Mahae-Seva Kendra. The applications can only be submitted online. There is no provision of accepting the forms offline at any government offices.”

People who miss the deadline can still file the application through the ‘grievances redressal committee’, but that will take more time as the committee takes some time to sit, discuss and then decide on each case. The officials have also warned of action against the people who are filing false claims for the ex-gratia amount under section 52 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005. In Nashik district, so far 12,505 bereaved families have received Rs 62.5 crore as ex-gratia amount.
