Apple will delete some photos from your phone this month - this is how to save pictures from being lost

iPhone users are being told they need to take steps to prevent some of their photos from being deleted forever.

Apple is making a major change to the photos feature on users' handsets before the end of July. The tech giant has announced that it is retiring My Photo Stream, an album that automatically stores snaps from the last 30 days. Users may notice that the album stopped uploading pictures on June 26.

BirminghamLive reported that on July 26, all photos stored in the album will be deleted as the feature is removed. Millions of iPhone users may be affected when the change comes into effect on July 26. You can get more story updates straight to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletters here.

To prevent those pictures from being lost, iPhone users are being urged to take action to save the photos elsewhere. To avoid photos in My Photo Stream from being deleted along with the album, customers should go into their Photos app, enter Albums, then My Photo Stream, then save the contents on to your device.

Apple's support page reads: "My Photo Stream is scheduled to be shut down on July 26, 2023. As part of this transition, new photo uploads to My Photo Stream from your devices will stop one month before, on June 26, 2023.

"If a photo you want isn't already in your library on a particular iPhone, iPad, or Mac, make sure that you save it to your library on that device."
