Apple has recently rolled out the latest update, macOS Sonoma version 14.4.1, for MacBook, Mac, and iMac computers. This update comes in response to various concerns raised following the release of the substantive 14.4 update earlier this month. One critical issue addressed in this update pertains to cloud-based backups.

The macOS Sonoma 14.4.1 update is compatible with a range of Mac devices. Supported models include MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini from 2018 or later, Mac Pro from 2019 or later, iMac from 2019 or later, iMac Pro from 2017 or later, and all Mac Studio models. For older hardware that can only run macOS Ventura, Apple has also released a new security update, macOS 13.6.6.

To download the macOS 14.4.1 update, users can access it directly from their Mac by navigating to System Settings, selecting General, and then choosing Software Update. While the update may take some time to become available worldwide, users are advised to check periodically if it is not immediately visible.

macOS 14.4 introduced several new features but also brought about significant bugs that affected user experience. Some reported issues included USB devices malfunctioning post-update, requiring adjustments to privacy and security settings for connectivity; deletion of older iCloud backups in certain scenarios; and unexpected crashes of Java processes on Apple Silicon-powered Macs.

The release notes for macOS 14.4.1 specifically target these problems along with addressing two new security vulnerabilities. Following the discovery of bugs in macOS 14.4, many users refrained from updating, despite the update fixing numerous security issues. With the release of macOS Sonoma 14.4.1, users are encouraged to update their Mac devices to ensure optimal security and performance.
