If you have an iPhone in your pocket then you'd be wise to check it's running the very latest version of iOS. Apple has just released a very important update which not only adds a few new features but also fixes a number of security glitches.
The reason this patch is so vital is that some of the bugs may be being used by cyber thieves which is why Apple has rushed so quickly to send out the iOS 16.5 release.
In its list of notes, the US technology firm states that three of the issues "may have been actively exploited" so this is definitely not an update to ignore. It's unclear how big the problem is or how many users may have been affected but the faster you update the less chance you have of being impacted.
To check your device is fully up to date, head to Settings > General > Software Update . If your iPhone is already running iOS 16.5 then you can rest easy. If it's showing anything lower than that then it's time to hit the download and install button.
It's worth noting that the update is over 800MB in size so if you have limited network data make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi before starting the refresh.
As we mentioned earlier, iOS 16.5 isn't just about security. Apple has confirmed that it also includes a new Pride Celebration wallpaper for the Lock Screen to honour the LGBTQ+ community and culture.
There's also an update to Apple News with a new Sport tab giving you easy access to stories, scores, rankings and more, for your favourite teams.

It's set to be a busy few weeks for Apple's software teams with the firm's Developers Conference now just a few weeks away.
WWDC gets underway on June 5 and we're expecting new iOS updates to be revealed along with improvements to other operating systems such as watchOS, macOS and iPadOS.
