Apple Just Reinvented the Way You Use Voicemail, Text

Apple's long-awaited annual developer conference, WWDC, finally began June 5, and the famed iPhone makers wasted no time in showing off its new updates.

Jumping into the coming IOS 17, Apple highlighted a few big updates coming to some of its most important apps: Phone, Messages and FaceTime.

One of the biggest updates coming with IOS 17 is a new feature called "live voicemail."

Now, a live, real-time transcription will show up on your screen when someone leaves a voicemail, allowing users to instantly see whether they want to answer the phone.

This live transcription is handled on-device to help protect users' privacy.

"Imagine you get a phone call in a meeting and want to know whether it's something urgent or if you can wait until the meeting is wrapped," Apple's senior vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi, said. "You'll see the voicemail right on your screen. So you can decide whether to step out and take the call."

Part of Apple's IOS 17 rollout involves the long-requested addition of FaceTime voicemail in addition to a bunch of updates to Messages, including a more powerful search complete with filters.

IOS 17 will also feature a "catch-up" arrow to take you to the top of a new conversation, as well as audio message transcription.

Apple's stock hit an all-time high on June 5, spiking at $184.95. The tech giant is also rapidly approaching a $3 trillion market cap, at $2.9 trillion.
