The Blanchardstown community have rallied together to help find a woman's dog that was allegedly stolen from the scene of a car crash last week.
The woman, who does not want to be named, was in the car with her two dogs last Tuesday, September 13 when she was involved in a traffic accident at the Corduff main lights in Blanchardstown. One of the dogs fled from the scene after the crash but was later located.
However, the second dog, a seven-year-old Schnauzer was allegedly taken from the scene and has not been returned. Lisa O'Connor, founder of Missing stolen animals Ireland, has been assisting the owner in locating the dog and spoke to Dublin Live about what happened.
She said: "An eyewitness who I have spoken to pulled in at the accident as she has paramedic training. When she got to the car, the dog owner was pretty much lying on the ground on the driver's side.
"So obviously she was checking that the dog owner was okay. While she was on the ground with the dog owner, she looked up and saw a woman get the dog, the dog was on a lead.
"The eyewitness said it all happened so fast but the woman said she would mind the dog. In all of the chaos, they didn't notice until later that she had actually taken the dog from the scene."
The dog is neutered and microchipped. Her name is not being released as it is feared those who took her could use it to their advantage.
Lisa said: "We suspect that once whoever took her realises that she can't be used for breeding they will try to sell her, so we're appealing to everyone to keep an eye out for any advertisements that fit her description."
A garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardai are making enquiries into an incident which occurred on the Blanchardstown Road in Dublin on Tuesday, 13th September 2022."
If you have any information about the incident you can get in touch with Lisa here.
