Appeal for witnesses as teen left fighting for life after being struck by van

Police in Aberdeen have urged motorists who may have captured a near-fatal collision at the city's bypass on their dashcams to get in touch as they launch a probe into the incident.

As the Record reported earlier today an 18-year-old man was struck by a van at around 1.55am on the A90 southbound, close to its junction with the A944 towards Alford.

The driver of the white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van was unharmed in the collision.

Paramedics took the teenager from the scene of the accident - on the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route that bypasses the Granite City - to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Police say he suffered "life-threatening injuries" in the crash.

Parts of the road remain closed between Kingswells North and Kingswells South while officers carry out enquiries.

In the meantime, road policing cops have urged anyone who may have been in the area to contact the police as soon as possible, particularly if they have dashcam footage that could prove useful.

Road Policing Sergeant Steve Manson said in a statement: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash or who may have seen either the pedestrian or the vehicle prior to the incident to get in touch.

“I would also ask anyone with dashcam footage which may assist our investigation to contact us.

“Anyone with any information is urged to contact 101, quoting incident 0425 of 29 May.”
