Appeal after man has pint glass smashed in his face in brawl involving football fans at pub

An appeal has been issued after a man had a pint glass smashed in his face in a brawl involving football fans at a pub in Manchester. The fight, which broke out at the Piccadilly Tap pub on October 2, saw one man suffer lacerations wounds near his eye.

Officers from British Transport Police have now issued CCTV images of one man they wish to speak to as part of their investigation. The force said the fight had initially started after two groups of men had been playing a game of pool against each other.

The football fans, who had been watching a fixture earlier that day arrived separately at the pub, close to Piccadilly train station. It was just before 8pm that the two groups played a game of pool before a fight broke out between two of the men.

Other members of the group tried to split up the fight, before one of the men involved smashed a pint glass in the face of one of the men who had intervened, injuring him.

Officers believe the man in the CCTV images could help with the investigation. Anyone with any information that could assist enquiries is being urged to contact police.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers investigating an attack at the Piccadilly Tap pub outside Manchester Piccadilly station are releasing CCTV images in connection.
