In a plot twist that’s got everyone’s jaws on the floor, it seems some Sydney suburbs are actually experiencing a drop in rent prices. I know, I know, it sounds like fake news, but hear me out.
While most of us are still living off of two-minute noodles and dreams thanks to sky-high rents, a select few ‘burbs are bucking the trend.
Let’s take a cheeky look at where you might be able to save a few dollars on your next lease.
North Curl Curl
Hold onto your designer boardshorts, because North Curl Curl is leading the charge with an 11.1 per cent drop in median weekly rent. Sure, it’s still a cool $1500 per week, but hey, that’s practically pocket change in Sydney terms, right?
Clovelly
Clovelly, darling, you’re becoming almost attainable! With a 10.8 per cent decrease, you can now rent a house for the bargain price of $1650 per week. Who needs kidneys anyway? It could be time to trade that inner-west share house for some beachside bliss.
Palm Beach
Home of Home and Away and now to an 8.6 per cent rent decrease. At $1645 per week, you too can pretend to be a soap opera star living the high life. Just don’t expect Alf Stewart to be your friendly neighborhood landlord.
Green Point and Booker Bay
For those ready to embrace the #CentralCoastLife, Green Point and Booker Bay are offering rents below Sydney’s median. It’s perfect for those who want to swap city smog for, well, slightly less city smog. Plus, you might actually be able to afford a car to make that commute.
Earlwood
Earlwood is giving renters a tiny 1.6 per cent discount on units. It’s like finding an extra chicken nugget in your Macca’s order – unexpected but totally welcome. Time to trade that Newtown fixie for some actual living space?
Here are the rest of the suburbs where house rents are cheaper than last year BTW:
Before you start packing your bags and ghosting your current landlord, remember that ‘cheaper’ in Sydney terms is like saying you got a bargain at Gucci. It’s all relative, babes.
And with a vacancy rate of 1.1 per cent, finding a rental is still harder than scoring Taylor Swift tickets. So, there you have it, folks. A handful of suburbs where rent is slightly less likely to make you cry about your existence.
But, again, don’t get too excited – we’re still talking Sydney prices here. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to check if the 2x2m CBD studio apartment I’ve been stalking on Domain has magically become affordable. (Spoiler alert: it hasn’t.)
