Apex Legends gets official VTuber avatars

Anyone looking to become a digital superstar in Apex Legends can do so through the official VTuber avatars released by developer Respawn on Friday.

Over the past couple of years, VTubers (short for Virtual YouTubers) have become increasingly popular within online influencer scenes. Basically, content creators use virtual anime-like avatars to represent themselves rather than appear on camera. Gawr Gura, the most popular VTuber, has more than four million YouTube subscribers. It’s becoming a massive part of Twitch streaming too.

Respawn came up with VTuber avatars of Bangalore, Octane, and Mirage to celebrate the upcoming anime-themed Gaiden Event in Apex Legends. Octane’s “Sea Legs” skin and Mirage’s “Marked Man” skin are brilliant references toward One Piece and My Hero Academia, respectively. Bangalore’s “Apex Commander” Skin looks like an original concept, though. Check out all three for yourself below.

You can download all the Apex Legends Vtuber assets for yourself here. Respawn even includes detailed installation instructions and everything.

Akupara Games and Loaded.gg collaborated with Respawn on the avatars, enlisting the talents of several well-known VTuber influencers. It’s quite a creative promotion, and it’ll be interesting to see if more people become VTubers as a result.
