Apartment building increases by 150%, Cabinet to be told by Housing Minister

The number of apartment completions in the third quarter of 2022 has increased by over 150% in the last year, Cabinet will hear this morning.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien will update Ministers on the progress of the Government's housing blueprint Housing for All.

At the end of September, completions for the year to date stood at 20,807.

This is more than for the whole of 2021, when completion notices were 20,560.

The Cabinet will hear that Housing for All has a target of 24,600 homes to be delivered by the end of this year and it is expected that this target will be hit.

Quarter three apartment completions increased by 153.4% from the same quarter last year to 2,445.

Planning permissions were granted for 19,837 homes during the first half of 2022, a rise of 9.5% on the same period in 2021.

Minister O’Brien will also brief the Cabinet on the appointment of the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) as the statutory registration body for the Construction Industry Register Ireland (CIRI).

Approximately 800 building and contracting entities are currently included on the register.

This will increase substantially once the requirement to register with the statutory register comes into effect. It is estimated that at least 5,000 entities will be required to register.
