Just 10 years ago, Anzhi Makachkala were challenging at the top of the Russian Premier League and battling with Liverpool in Europe, but now the club is set to fold.
The writing has been on the wall for some time. The team have been away from the sharp end of European football for a while, and dropped down to the third tier of Russian domestic football after a series of financial issues.
Anzhi's race appears to have run, with the club not granted a licence to compete in the third tier this season. It's a far cry from the glory days, when they reached the knockout rounds of the Europa League and set their sights on domestic glory.
