Warner Bros. has released the second trailer for George Miller's 'Furiosa', the post-apocalyptic prequel to 'Mad Max: Fury Road.' The film stars Anya-Taylor Joy as wasteland warrior princess Imperator Furiosa, a role originally played by Charlize Theron in the 2015 series reboot. 'Furiosa' follows a young Furiosa as she is ripped from her refuge in the Green Place of Many Mothers and, for the first time, forced to face the insanity of the desolate world beyond.
Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke star alongside Taylor-Joy. The new trailer showcases Taylor-Joy fully embracing her role as Furiosa by cutting her hair and donning her robotic arm prosthetic. It opens with a flashback to a younger Furiosa being abducted by a gang of marauders on motorbikes. As a young adult, she embarks on a vengeful quest against Hemsworth's unnamed ringleader, featuring intense car chases and encounters with eccentric wasteland characters.
'Furiosa' marks the fifth installment in the 'Mad Max' franchise, with George Miller directing and co-writing the script with Nico Lathouris. The previous film in the series, 'Mad Max: Fury Road', starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult, garnered both commercial success and critical acclaim. It grossed $380 million at the box office and received 10 Academy Award nominations, winning in categories such as editing, sound, production design, makeup, and costume design.
Several key crew members from 'Fury Road', including editor Margaret Sixel, costume designer Jenny Beavan, and composer Junkie XL, are returning for 'Furiosa'. Simon Dugan will take over as director of photography following the retirement of John Seale, the cinematographer for 'Fury Road'. Seale's final project was the collaboration with Miller on 'Three Thousand Years of Longing'.
'Furiosa' is set to hit theaters on May 24, 2024, with Warner Bros. confirming IMAX screenings for the film. Fans can catch a glimpse of the action-packed trailer to get a taste of the thrilling post-apocalyptic world awaiting them in 'Furiosa'.
