Antony pictured with his agent as Erik ten Hag steps up Man Utd's transfer pursuit

Ajax winger Antony has been pictured alongside his agent amid reports linking him with an imminent move to Manchester United this summer.

Erik ten Hag's status as the new manager of United has in turn led to relentless rumours surrounding the Red Devils raiding the Dutchman's former side. In the immediate aftermath of his arrival at Old Trafford, the name touted with a move that would see them follow their former boss to Manchester was central defender Jurrien Timber.

However, attentions have since turned to Brazilian Antony and the Red Devils are rumoured to be willing to pay £40million to secure his services. Widely regarded as one of the most promising young players in Europe, Antony has already represented the Brazilian national team.

Ten Hag is keen to bolster his attacking options given the mass exodus of attacking players he has already had to deal with since his appointment. Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani have all departed the club following the expiration of their respective contracts.

As a result of the heavy reliance on Cristiano Ronaldo to be the goal-scorer at United, Ten Hag is looking for someone who can chip in with goals as well as slotting in seamlessly with the way he wants his United side to play.

Originally, it is thought that the United boss harboured hopes of landing Benfica sensation Darwin Nunez. However, the Uruguay international looks set to complete a switch to rivals Liverpool and Ten Hag has landed on Antony as an alternative.

It has been a while since United had an out-and-out right winger, with Jadon Sancho used on the left flank for much of last term. Talk of a potential move for Antony has increased since he was spotted with his agent Junior Pedroso.

The pair took a picture together in Amsterdam which was shared to Pedroso's Instagram page. It is unclear whether the meeting was one arranged to discuss the player's future or not.

The summer transfer window opened last week and United are already allegedly closing in on a number of targets ahead of Ten Hag's first pre-season at the helm.

With 12 goals and 10 assists across all competitions for Ajax last season at just 22 years of age, the idea of Antony improving and becoming even better in a United shirt is an exciting prospect for the Old Trafford faithful.

Ajax will be reluctant to let one of their most prized assets go and this could go on to become one of the transfer sagas of the summer.
