Antony available for selection for Manchester United vs Galatasaray, Erik ten Hag confirms

Erik ten Hag has confirmed Antony’s return to contention for Manchester United’s Champions League game against Galatasaray.

The Brazilian winger, 23, last played a month ago before being given a leave of absence amid allegations of assault being made by a number of ex-girlfriends. He denies any wrongdoing.

Last week, Antony returned to the UK and spoke to Greater Manchester Police before being given the green light to return to training

Ahead of the visit of Turkish side Galatasaray on Tuesday night, United boss Ten Hag confirmed his player will be available for selection.

He told reporters: “Antony will be in consideration but yesterday was his first time back in team training. We have a final training, then we'll make a decision.”

From a footballing perspective, United will view Antony’s return as welcome following their latest poor display in defeat to Crystal Palace on the weekend. The team lost three of their five matches during his absence.

However, the club have faced questions over their handling of domestic abuse allegations in recent times with their decision to keep Mason Greenwood on their books after he was accused of attempted rape, assault and coercive behaviour.

Greenwood, now on loan at Getafe, also denied the charges and the police dropped the case after the withdrawal of key witnesses. Antony, contrastingly, has not been charged by the authorities.

Ten Hag said of the matter: “Antony co-operated fully and it came out, he's not charged, so...”
