Antonio Conte still has a battle of wing-backs in his Tottenham side, despite both creating Tottenham's first goal in their victory over Leeds on Saturday.
Spurs made the trip to Elland Road after a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor during the week and got the positive response they needed.
The solid reaction also earnt them a much needed three points in the Premier League and they now sit five points off fourth placed Man United, with two games in hand.
In Conte's favoured 3-4-3 set-up, there is a heavy reliance on wing-backs, something that was seen during his time at Chelsea but not something that was seen at Spurs under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Therefore it has been taking some time for the Lilywhites to adapt, but the Italian's influence may be starting to be displayed on the pitch now too.
In his post match press conference, Conte acknowledged the success of his wing-backs at Elland Road.
"For the first time I have seen my mark about this system, to create with the wing-back and the other wing back to score. This is a mark of my system, my formation," the 52-year-old admitted.
"This is the first time. It means the work is starting to work.
"They go and press a lot, they have duels in every area, every zone of the pitch. Today I asked this of my players," he added. "I wanted to see answers not only about football aspects. I wanted to see improvements in this aspect, which in my opinion are very important."
The Italian's comments after the victory were very different to those heard after the 1-0 defeat during the week and the performance highlighted a lot of his tactics coming into play.
The battle on the left flank has been between Ryan Sessegnon and Sergio Reguilon, since Conte arrived.
Sessegnon has had experience as a defender and a winger and showed his impact in the final third during his time at Fulham where, during the 2017/18 season, he scored 15 goals and registered six assists in the Championship.
However, the 21-year-old has suffered with numerous injuries and bad luck under the Italian so far, meaning he hasn't had too many opportunities to get a good run of game time and impress.
Reguilon has made 24 appearances in all compeitions for Spurs so far this season and has been first choice on the left since Conte's arrival.
The Spaniard hasn't featured on the pitch since the 3-2 defeat to Southampton after he came down with Covid, meaning Sessegnon has been given the nod.
The youngster had shown glimpses of quality when he featured and produced a solid performance against Man City.
When it came to the trip to Elland Road, the London born player was again given a start in Conte's side and he didn't disappoint.
Sessegnon not only made two interceptions and two key passes, it was his cross which set-up Matt Doherty for Spurs' first goal of the game.
Working down the flanks and assisting one another in the final third is exactly what the Tottenham boss wants and needs from his wing-backs, so the 21-year-old didn't disappoint.
The performance against Marcelo Bielsa's now former side may now spark more competition for Reguilon to break back into the team after returning from his isolation.
The Spaniard hasn't produced awful performances but just hasn't had the impact required and if Sessegnon continues his form when given the chance, there could be some big decisions for Conte to make on the left-hand side.
On the right hand side there is another battle and one that the Spurs boss may have thought would be solved during the Janaury transfer window.
A right wing-back was something Conte asked for but didn't recieve, during the winter window, after interest in Adama Traore collapsed.
This left the 52-year-old with Emerson Royal and Doherty, both who have struggled to keep consistent form and also make the required impact on the other side of the pitch.
Royal has been given the nod most often under the Italian and has made 32 appearances in all competition for Tottenham, since his arrival last summer.
The Brazilian was bought under Espirito Santo, who played with full-backs rather than wing-backs and moving to a new country and a new league does require some settling in.
However Conte needs his players to be perfoming now, in the final few months of the season, as Spurs continue to battle for a top four spot.
In recent games the 23-year-old has struggled to make this impact down the right flank, which caused him to be substituted with Lucas Moura in the defeat to Burnley and side-lined against Leeds.
Royal did come on for the final 12 minutes at Elland Road and did have a half chance inside the box but his hesitation and poor execution meant it came to nothing.
Doherty was chosen to start as the right wing-back and played the full 90 minutes against Leeds, in just his third Premier League start of the season.
The Irishman not only had 89.1 per cent passing accuracy and produced two key passes, he was also on the end of Sessegnon's cross and slotted the ball into the back of the net, for his first goal for Tottenham.
Throughout the rest of the match he was involved in the build-up for Spurs' second goal and played his part in the defensive half of the pitch too, making three clearances and two interceptions.
However, Doherty produced a solid second half performance in the thrilling 3-2 victory over Leicester and then failed to keep that up in the next match against Chelsea.
Conte now has a dilemma on his hands for Tuesday's FA Cup match and fixtures going forward.
Spurs still have a number of games to play and a couple to still be rescheduled meaning all four players will most likely be given a chance to impress.
Doherty and Sessegnon will both feel they deserve to keep their spot in the starting XI after Saturday, but the Italian could look to make some rotation when his side travel to play Middlesbrough.
Whoever is given the nod to start in the next few games will have a real chance to try and secure their spot in the starting XI and find some consistent form and it is up to them to do so.
