Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has explained why he was booked following a brief altercation with Liverpool’s backroom staff.
The Reds claimed a 2-1 win over Spurs in the Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon. Mohamed Salah scored a brace in the first half to secure the victory in North London.
In the second half, shortly after Harry Kane equalised for the home side, Conte was booked by referee Andy Madley. Replays showed that Conte marched over towards Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders to try and get the ball back in play, after a throw-in was awarded.

Madley soon walked over to Conte and engaged in a brief chat before awarding the Italian a yellow card. It’s not the first time that the Spurs boss has been punished by officials, with him being sent off for his reaction to a disallowed goal against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League last month.
Speaking after the match, Conte clarified the reason why he was booked by the referee. The Spurs boss went on to acknowledge his “respect” for Jurgen Klopp and Lijnders.
Conte told Sky Sports: “The assistant of Jurgen wanted to keep hold of the ball, but we clarified with him after the game and it was all good.
“I have great respect for Jurgen and his assistant.”
