Antonio Conte and Tottenham dealt major Richarlison injury blow ahead of Premier League return

Tottenham are set to be without Richarlison for around five to six weeks after the attacker suffered a hamstring injury at the World Cup, football.london understands. A key player in the Brazil team, the 25-year-old picked up the issue in the warm-up before his country's World Cup quarter-final clash against Croatia.

Richarlison still managed to play 84 minutes of the contest before he was eventually withdrawn in the closing stages. Following Brazil's World Cup exit, the summer signing was back at Hotspur Way on Monday to find out the extent of his hamstring injury.

Following a scan on the problem, football.london understands that he will be out for a period of around five to six weeks as a result. The news will come as a major blow to Antonio Conte as the Brazilian missed a month of football prior to the World Cup with a calf injury sustained against former club Everton.

His absence also comes at a bad time for the club with the Premier League set to resume on Boxing Day following a six-week break for the World Cup. Tottenham face Brentford in the first game back, with matches against Aston Villa and Crystal Palace also on the agenda in early 2023.

Richarlison wasn't the only Tottenham player to return injured from the tournament in Qatar, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Ben Davies also picking up injuries. Bentancur suffered a small tear to his adductor muscle in his right leg in Uruguay's final World Cup game against Ghana.

As the midfielder is already suspended for the Boxing Day game at Brentford, the January signing has extra time to recover back at Hotspur Way before Aston Villa make the trip to north London on New Year's Day. Davies, on the other hand, suffered an injury to his oblique muscle, which is located in the abdominal area, during Wales' match against England.

The Welshman is back at Hotspur Way and was spotted training with the team on Friday. Before Spurs travel across the capital to face Brentford on Boxing Day, they host Nice in a friendly at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday evening.
