Antonio Conte and Harry Kane's Tottenham futures and the Daniel Levy claim that will excite fans

Tottenham legend Teddy Sheringham believes that Daniel Levy will do everything possible to keep Antonio Conte happy in north London. Appointed in the hotseat at the start of November following Nuno Espirito Santo's exit, the Italian's future has been in the headlines numerous times since then due to the team's up and down form.

Questioning whether he was the right manager for Tottenham in February when they lost at Burnley and even hinting that he could depart, Conte's future has continued to be a talking point despite the team getting back on track and seizing the initiative in the top-four race. With Spurs fans desperate for chairman Levy to give the head coach the funds he requires to help take the team to the next level, Sheringham can't see why he would stop now having gone out and tried to do the very best for the club in the past.

"I certainly hope so. I'm a big believer in Daniel Levy because he's gone out and tried to do the best for Tottenham. He went out and got [Jose] Mourinho, he paid for the best, it didn't quite work out," he told football.london in an exclusive interview on behalf of Genting Casino.

"He's gone out again and he's got Conte, he's paying top dollar for the managers to try and make Tottenham better. Why wouldn't he keep going and back the manager that could get them into Champions League football?"

Having moved ahead of Arsenal over the weekend courtesy of the slender 1-0 win over Burnley, Spurs have a two-point cushion over their rivals going into the final day after the Gunners lost 2-0 at Newcastle United on Monday evening. Travelling to Norwich City on Sunday with their destiny in their own hands, Sheringham believes a Champions League finish would end speculation over Conte and Harry Kane's futures.

"Yes I think it should do if all goes according to plan," he added. "It has been a rollercoaster season for Tottenham, them and Arsenal have been edging in front and then blowing their chances. I'd like to think Tottenham will get over the line at the weekend.

"With new managers to the job you get more funds, you can attract bigger and better players, I think it could be a big sliding doors moment for Tottenham if they do get over the line on Sunday, and that means signing Harry Kane again or making sure he's happy. Obviously keeping Conte, he's the main one because he's the one pulling all the strings."

So how far can Conte take Tottenham? Certainly, quite a way off Man City and Liverpool as things stand, Sheringham believes that the Lilywhites should be taking a look at Chelsea and aiming to push ahead of them in 2022/23.

"As long as they can keep improving, I think it's great. They'll hopefully get fourth on Sunday and then next season if you can get above Chelsea and get that consistency," he explained.

"I think they are a little bit away off the Liverpool and Man City styles, where they are ending up and how far they are away. If you can pip ahead of Chelsea and keep maintaining the consistency and getting better then that's all well and good for Conte and Tottenham next season."
