Antonio Colak in emotional Rangers farewell as he thanks Ibrox support

Antonio Colak has bid an emotional farewell to Rangers after his Ibrox exit was confirmed today.

The Croatia striker leaves Ibrox after only one season, having scored 18 goals in 39 appearances since joining from PAOK last summer, finishing level with James Tavernier as the club’s top scorer.

Among his goals was the strike away to PSV Eindhoven that put Rangers into the group stages of the Europa League for the first time in 12 years.

Colak’s exit comes as Rangers boss Michael Beale reshapes his attack, with forwards Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Abdallah Sima among seven new faces at the club this summer.

Writing on Instagram, Colak said: "I want to thank everyone at the @rangersfc for the amazing support you gave me in my time at Rangers.

"Getting the club back to the Champions League where the club belongs and becoming the best goal scorer of the club in my first year made me really proud.

"I want to wish @rangersfc nothing but the best for the upcoming future and you will always have a big supporter with me. Once a Ger always a Ger! #watp"

On Colak's exit, Beale said: “Antonio can be really proud of his time here at Rangers. He scored goals and made a good contribution on the pitch but also as a man and professional, he was someone that I enjoyed working with and who built strong relationships with his team mates and staff off the pitch.

“We initially had a conversation at the end of last season, where we discussed football, his family and also what the future would look like in terms of the team.

“Antonio was very honest on his side and we have been working with him and his agent in the following weeks to find a solution that suits all parties. I am pleased for him to have this excellent opportunity in Italy.”
