An Antiques Roadshow guest was left stunned after a family heirloom was given a shockingly high valuation price.
In the latest episode of the BBC series, a guest brought along their family heirloom which had been passed through the generations of their family. The silk sampler had been passed down every generation of females in their family since the 1780s and left antique expert Wayne Colquhoun in awe.
The woman was left gobsmacked after Wayne valued the silk sampler to be worth thousands of pounds. The expert couldn't believe his eyes at the 'amazing' art which was created at the time by an 11-year-old girl.
"I've never seen one as good as this. It seems to be three different scenes, a farming scene, a sailing scene, and a scene from an exotic location," said an impressed Wayne.
"This is weaving a piece of history and from an 11-year-old girl. This is amazing. It looks like slaves behind the carts with tobacco, it's a piece of history."
The owner said: "It's been passed down through the female line since 1780 until me. What has troubled us is where the design came from it's not something you would get from a book in 1780.
"We didn't know the family had connections to America and we never knew where the design had come from."
Antique expert Wayne responded: "An 11-year-old has definitely been guided, its silk on wool. We see good ones for £5,000 normally but I think this is so good with its potential American connection."
The guest was stunned to find out the beloved heirloom was worth thousands, as Wayne estimated it would sell for upwards of £10,000.
He said: "With its potential going to auction I'd say it's worth £10,000 to £15,000 its that good. I've never seen a picture weaved by an 11-year-old so good."
After hearing the price her silk sampler is worth, she added that it will be proudly displayed at her home to show off.
Antiques Roadshow airs on Sunday at 8pm on BBC One.
