An Antiques Road Trip star bagged a huge profit after dropping just £5 on gold pendants.
Izzie Balmer appeared on tonight's episode, where they headed to the Derbyshire Dales to try and earn some cash from buying and selling antiques. Alongside Ishy Khan, they headed to Matlock Bath Illuminations and Derby's Pickford's House Museum amongst other places to try and grab a bargain they could get a hefty profit off of.
As part of her search, she managed to find two special pendants in a b ox of jewellery at Armstrong's Mill antiques store. It was listed as £30 for the whole box, but it was when she spotted something specific, she had to get her hands on it.
Speaking on the show, she said: "I only had a look in here out of habit. I didn't actually expect to find anything in here because I often think 'oh well the dealers will have already been through it'. But I've found a piece of gold!
"It's only a small thing but it's a little pendant. It's nine-carat gold, you've got this precious white opal in the middle. Now, the colours aren't spectacular on it. With opals, they're prized for their play of colour, so it's actually got better play of colour under the lens."
Revealing more about the item, she added: "So this is what we call a bale. The bale is stamped K18, which would be for 18-carat. Now it's very sort of 1970s, but I think it's definitely worth the risk, depending on the price."
When she discovered the true value of the pendant, she asked the dealer what he could do on the individual items. He said that she could have any item for £2.50 each, so she took out what she wanted and handed over £5.
In auction, it went up to £55 straight away before it eventually climbed up to reach a final price of £100.
"A great return on £5, isn't it. I'm really, really pleased with that," she said excitedly.
In a previous episode, expert Mark bagged a hefty profit on a set of London bus signs. Mark said: "These are off a London bus, these would have sat on the front inside a frame telling you where the bus was going. Inside there would have been a little handle that the driver would turn to change the destination," before he bagged a huge £240 for the item he had paid £20 for.
