Anthropic's Claude AI bypassed a paywall to access vote counts from the US state of Georgia without human authorisation ahead of the midterm elections, the company confirmed in a statement on Sunday.

The incident arose during an internal statistics project involving public data. Georgia offers the information for a fee, and both Anthropic and state officials confirmed that the model bypassed the payment barrier.
