Anthony Martial says Bruno Fernandes broke Manchester United promise on pre-season tour

Anthony Martial has joked that Bruno Fernandes broke a promise during Manchester United's pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

United have enjoyed a relatively successful tour. Only a late Aston Villa equaliser prevented the Reds from sealing four wins in four games.

On the flight out to Thailand, Martial had asked Fernandes to provide him with plenty of assists, to which the Portuguese midfielder replied: "I will, for sure man, you know that we have that connection." The Frenchman looked like a completely new signing on the tour, putting last season's woes behind him by scoring three goals in three games for Erik ten Hag's side.

However, not one of these goals was assisted by Fernandes. Martial was quick to tease Fernandes for failing to keep his promise as the squad flew back to the UK.

Fernandes approached Martial on MUTV and said: "Here we are again with Tony Martial. The guy of the tour, the man who scores loads of goals for us.

"How was the tour for you Anthony? Did you like it?"

Martial replied: "It was very good but you didn't give me one assist." Fernandes would then provide the following excuse: "You are right, you know why? I'm putting everything on the league. First game of the season, okay?"

United host Brighton on the opening weekend of the Premier League season. We will find out on Sunday, August 7 if Fernandes is able to keep his word.
