Anthony Martial continues comeback and four more things spotted in Manchester United training

Manchester United players have been working hard at Carrington ahead of their Carabao Cup clash with Aston Villa on Thursday night.

Erik ten Hag's side lost 3-1 to Villa in the Premier League at the weekend, with the two sides set to meet for the second time in five days in midweek.

United come into the game against the Midlands side looking for revenge after suffering defeat at the weekend, with Leon Bailey, Lucas Digne and Jacob Ramsey all on target for the home side in the top-flight clash on Sunday.

MEN Sport has taken a look at the recent training session and here is what we spotted:

Wan-Bissaka in focus

The English right-back, who has played just four minutes of football so far this season, was the camera operator's main focus for a short period of time. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in January, but the upcoming clash with Villa could provide Ten Hag with the opportunity to utilise the defender.

He has suffered from back troubles this season and has missed a number of matches as a result of his injury. Despite losing his spot to Diogo Dalot this campaign, the 24-year-old has still played over 100 matches for the Reds and featured heavily for United last term.

It remains to be seen if Wan-Bissaka will feature against Villa on Thursday night, but the defender was working hard in training to try and force his way into the starting XI.

Separate training groups

With Ten Hag's men having been in action on Sunday afternoon, the players who featured against Villa trained separately from the other players ahead of the upcoming game. It is not uncommon for players to take part in a lighter session in the following 48 hours after a match, but it could give a small hint about who will be involved against Unai Emery's side.

Club captain Harry Maguire, who was not involved at the weekend, and Fred were part of the main training group, with Scott McTominay also among the players being put through their paces. Given that the midweek clash against Villa will be the second time in five days that the two sides have met, Ten Hag is expected to make a number of changes to his team on Thursday.

Martial in good spirits

Anthony Martial came on at the weekend, replacing Donny van de Beek in the second half. The Frenchman is still regaining his fitness after being sidelined with an injury, with the 26-year-old having made just five appearances for the Reds in all competitions so far this season.

The forward, who has registered three goals and two assists, was all smiles as he took part in a rondo at Carrington. Although he made his return to the side on Sunday, Martial will be keen to ease his way back into the starting line-up as he looks to avoid any more injuries before the World Cup starts later this month.

Martial appeared to be comfortable moving the ball about in training, and the clash against Villa could provide the attacker with the chance to get some much-needed minutes under his belt.

Ten Hag watches on

The United boss was watching training with a keen eye as he looks to secure two victories from the Reds' final two matches before the break in the campaign. Ten Hag stood close to the rondo that was taking place and while he was standing with his back to the camera, he is likely to be pleased with the intensity of the session.

Ten Hag puts a lot of trust in his coaches during training, but he also gets involved himself and intervenes when required. With a matter of days left with his full squad, the Dutchman will be keen for his players to work hard in the remaining sessions.

Several young Reds involved

A number of the club's youth stars were involved in training, with Di'Shon Bernard, Noam Emeran and Shola Shoretire all taking part in the session at Carrington.

Bernard is yet to make an appearance for the senior side this season, and the 22-year-old was due to leave the Reds on loan earlier in the summer before he picked up an injury. However, the former Chelsea youngster, who has played for the first team once during his time at Old Trafford, could still leave in January.

Shoretire has been in good form for the U21s in the Premier League 2 this season, scoring four goals and registering one assist in eight matches. Meanwhile, Emeran has featured for the young Reds on three occasions this term.
