Anthony Gordon transfer stance hands Chelsea major boost as Todd Boehly prepares second bid

Chelsea are set to submit an improved offer for Everton starlet Anthony Gordon after an initial £45million bid was rejected.

The Toffees do not want to sell Gordon after already losing Richarlison this summer with the Brazilian joining Premier League rivals Tottenham. Spurs were interested in signing Gordon as well but refused to meet Everton's valuation of £50million for the 21-year-old.

The Blues opening offer was rejected out of hand by Goodison chiefs, but Chelsea are set to return with an improved offer that is closer to the Toffees' valuation of the rising England star. Todd Boehly is showing clear signs of support for Thomas Tuchel who is keen to bolster his attacking options this summer after missing out on a deal for Raphinha, with the Blues currently pursuing a deal for Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as well, football.london understands.

Gordon has handed the west London club a major boost in their pursuit after indicating to Frank Lampard that he is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge and wants the Chelsea legend to consider the offer, as per The Mirror. Everton are aware that Chelsea are ready to offer an enticing package that is hard to resist for the 21-year-old, with informal contact already being made.

Lampard has always insisted he doesn’t want to lose the England U21 star, but the Blues could look to use a few fringe players to sweeten the deal. Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has already fought off attempts from Newcastle and Spurs, but the Blues may be a much harder task to deal with with the appeal of Champions League football and potential for a central role in Tuchel's plans to build a young, exciting team for the future at Stamford Bridge.

Everton offered Gordon a new contract earlier this summer but the youngster is yet to agreed to a renewal, with the player’s representatives having made it clear to the club that he won’t put pen to paper. Should the 21-year-old actively push for a move away from Goodison Park, the Toffees find themselves in a weak position to negotiate meaning a move to Chelsea is looking increasingly likely as the transfer deadline edges closer.
