Anthony Gordon issues firm Everton transfer stance as Chelsea and Newcastle can secure £55m deal

Anthony Gordon has told Everton that he will not return to his boyhood club as he looks to push for a move away from Goodison Park. Chelsea had attempted to sign the 21-year-old last summer and could reignite their interest before Deadline Day, with Newcastle also pushing to sign the Toffees star.

Everton are in disarray at the moment after parting ways with Frank Lampard with the club currently sat joint-bottom of the Premier League table. Chelsea have been linked with a move for Gordon's teammate, Amadou Onana, but the latest reports suggest the midfielder has rejected a move to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have shown they are in the market for talented youngsters since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital completed a £4.25billion takeover of the club. Gordon could now become the latest arrival at Chelsea after he issued a firm transfer stance in the hope of securing an exit from Merseyside.

The Toffees want a fee in the region of £55million for their star talent who has missed the last three days of training as he attempts to leave the club, according to The Daily Mail. The 21-year-old has 18 months left on his current deal but has not started a game for Everton since the mid-season World Cup break.

Gordon proved to be a crucial figure for his boyhood club last term as he helped them avoid relegation. His form towards the end of last seasons saw Chelsea pursue a deal for him the following summer, but Everton rebuffed a bid in the region of £45million in the hopes he would sign a new contract.

The Merseyside outfit had hoped to sign Arnaut Danjuma this month before Tottenham swooped in to hijack the loan deal. Everton remain in talks with Newcastle over a deal for Gordon to make the move to Tyneside, but Chelsea may see this as an opportunity to hijack the transfer and finally get their man.

Boehly has already completed one transfer hijack this month after signing Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk after he looked destined to sign for Premier League leaders, Arsenal. The signings of Mudryk and Noni Madueke may hint that the Blues have moved on from Gordon, but anything can happen before the transfer window closes with Chelsea expected to make a few more signings.
