Ant Middleton says he'll 'fail til the day he dies' as he opens up about prison stint

Ant Middleton told This Morning hosts Phil Schofield and Josie Gibson he will 'fail until the day he dies' as he opened up about his stint in prison.

The former SAS: Who Dares Wins host, 41, was convicted of the unlawful wounding of one police officer and of common assault upon a second in 2013, for which he was sentenced to 14 months.

In 2015 Ant told the Mirror he was 'filled with remorse' over the incident, which he blamed on the difficulties involved with transitioning from military life to civilian life.

Appearing on This Morning today, flogging his new book Mission Total Resilience, Ant said his time inside had been his 'biggest failure, but his biggest lesson.'

He explained: "Going to prison was my biggest failure, but my biggest learning curve.

"Why was I there? Talk about self-reflection, holding yourself accountable...

"It's not about passing the blame or batting it off as an excuse.

"You will get your most valuable lessons from failure."

Ant was candid as he admitted there was no magic cure to making mistakes.

He said: "I'll fail til the day I die, that's a fact. It's an every day part of life like breathing.

"If you learn to acknowledge it and embrace it you'll see the valuable lessons that you can take from failure.

Josie asked Ant what he'd learnt from his mistakes (ITV)

"I'm a father of five and if I'd have known what I know now, maybe I wouldn't have made the failures in my life."

Explaining that everything he talks about in his book stemmed from something he'd been through, Ant explained: "I don't get caught up with the destination - it's all about the journey".

The ex-soldier then spoke about how much he loved Australia where he's been presenting the country's version of SAS: Who Dares Wins.

Ant was booted off the UK series over his personal conduct and judging by fans' comments after his This Morning interview, they aren't keen to see him back on UK TV any time soon.

One took to Twitter saying: "I cannot believe Ant Middleton is on #ThisMorning again. Why give him any airtime?Awful views and actions."

Another said: "Ant Middleton - the idiots' hero #ThisMorning."

While a third fumed: "I loathe Ant Middleton with an absolute passion #thismorning."
